Biography
Professor Chan joined the department in 2001 as an Assistant Professor and is currently appointed as Professor. He graduated with MBBS in 1996 from the University of Hong Kong and obtained the Membership of Royal College of Physicians in 1998 and the Fellowship of Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2005.
 
Professor Chan has received several research and teaching awards, including the Best Presentation Award in the 2007 annual general meeting from the Hong Kong College of Pathologists, the Best Original Research Award 2007 from the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the 2007 Sigi Ziering Award from the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (as a co-winner with Prof. Dennis Lo), the best poster presentation award in the Fourth Congress on Circulating Nucleic Acids in Plasma and Serum (CNAPS IV) in 2006 (London), the best poster presentation at the 18th International Congress of Clinical Chemistry 2002 (Kyoto), the Best Teaching Activity Design in 2005 and the Best Teacher Award 2007 from the Faculty of Medicine of the University.
 
Research Interests:
Professor Chan's duties include teaching medical students, participating in research, serving as a duty biochemist, and seeing patients in the clinics. He was involved in the SARS research during the 2003 SARS epidemic in Hong Kong. His research interests include the development of molecular markers for prenatal diagnosis and cancer detection, and currently involved in developing novel screening methods for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
